Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar today asked the state government to sanction Asara pensions to all the eligible persons not getting them currently, at the earliest.
Bandi wrote an open letter to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on the issue, and reminded the latter of his promises on several occasions to extend the Asara pension scheme to all those above 57 years of age and meeting the criteria. He also pointed to the TRS election manifesto, which promised the same.
He also said that 11 lakh people were waiting for the sanction of the pensions, and that the state government would need to pay Rs. 78,624 to each of them including arrears if it implemented its promise with effect from 2018.
Bandi alleged that the state government had not taken the necessary steps or issued the proper guidelines for the sanction of the pensions although it had promised to disburse it from April 1, 2022.
The BJP leader also said that the Asara pensions were meant for the poor people, and so the state government should continue pay the pensions of those who died, to their kin, if the family had any eligible person. He said that over two lakh families had lost the benefit of the pension due to the decision of the state government to cancel the pensions of the deceased Asara beneficiaries.
39 lakh eligible Asara pension applicants over the last 39 months. He demanded that the Chief Minister release pension to the eligible pensioners immediately.
