The newly appointed Andhra Pradesh BJP State president P V N Madhav recently met TDP senior leader and AP Minister Nara Lokesh and presented him with a map of undivided India that did not include the image of Telangana.
The map quickly became a topic of heated discussion in both Telugu-speaking States, with BRS working president K T Rama Rao strongly objecting to Madhav's action.
Netizens also expressed outrage, alleging that the omission of Telangana from the map was deliberate.
However, the AP BJP chief has since corrected his mistake. On Monday, Madhav met former MLC Ramachander Rao in Hyderabad to congratulate him on his appointment as the Telangana BJP president. This time, he presented the Akhand Bharat map with Telangana's image included.
In this context, the Telangana BJP's official handle on X posted a message addressing the controversy. "Finding objections to the portrait that interprets the glorious history of Akhand Bharat is like digging a mountain to catch a mouse, or plucking feathers from an egg," the post said. It added that Madhav had presented a portrait reflecting India's cultural splendour, and expressing affection, brotherhood and respect for the State of Telangana.
Madhav also issued a clarification via his own post on X. He said that those who drew political lines over Telugu unity should bow before history, adding that the Telugu people would always remember those who draw lines on maps for votes and incited regional hatred.
"Attempts to break the bond between the people of Telangana and Andhra are a testament to narrow-mindedness. I am a nationalist and a proud Telugu, who has actively worked in the State Legislative Council to uphold the Telugu language, culture and pride in both States," he wrote.
He also said that his love and respect for Telangana and its great culture went beyond political criticism. He took aim at those who "praise the Razakars and bow down to the descendants of the Nizam", saying they would never understand the values of culture, nationalism and equality that lived in the hearts of Telangana's people.
He concluded by asserting that no one could diminish or change the love and respect he had for the State of Telangana.
