The Transport Minister of Bihar Ramai Ram has praised the functioning of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation, and said his State would emulate some of the practices being followed by the corporation.
Speaking to media persons after meeting Telangana Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy at the State Secretariat on Wednesday, Ram said that the TSRTC had a centralized system of operations which was exemplary.
He also said that since the roads in Telangana were comparatively better than Bihar, the TSRTC incurred lesser expenditure on maintenance.
He said that a team of Bihar officials would soon visit Hyderabad to learn the best practices of the TSRTC.
Meanwhile, Reddy informed his Bihar counterpart that the Telangana RTC operated nearly 10,000 buses, and transported about 85 lakh passengers, through 9 depots and 363 bus stations across the 10 districts of Telangana.
He said that steps were being taken to improve the functioning further. He said that a team led by him had recently visited Mumbai to study its model of public transport and, a detailed report would be submitted to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in this regard.
He added that there were a lot of similarities in the RTCs of Bihar and Telangana, and there was little difference in the prices of the services. He said that the RTC fares were higher in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. (INN)
