The place of worship has been built at Rs 8 crores, and is adjacent to the existing oldest Gurudwara in the state, built nearly 150 years ago.
The magnificent Darbar Saheb of Gurudwara Saheb Barambala, Sikh Chawniat, Attapur, Kishanbagh, an architectural and design marvel, was inaugurated by the three major Sikh Jathedars on Sunday, in the presence of thousands of devotees.
The newly constructed place of worship is the biggest Gurudwara in Telangana, and has been built at a cost of Rs 8 crores.
The structure has come up adjacent to the existing oldest Gurudwara in the state that was built nearly 150 years ago.
The inauguration marked the first time in the history of Hyderabad that the Jathedars of the major Sikh Takhats from various parts of the country came together. The religious leaders in attendance were the Jathedar of Takhat Sri Keshgarh Saheb, Anandpur Saheb (Punjab), Singh Saheb Giani Raghbir Singhji; Jathedar of Takhat Sri Damdama Saheb (Punjab), Singh Saheb Giani Harpreet Singhji; and the Jathedar of Takhat Sachkhand Sri Hazur Saheb, Nanded (Maharashtra), Singh Saheb Giani Jyotinder Singhji; along with the President of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) Manjeet Singh G K, and Bhai Esher Singhji of Hyderabad.
Philanthropists S Tavinder Singh Kohli and S Gagandeep Singh Kohli, who run the Guru Nanak group of institutions in the city, played a pivotal role in the construction of the Gurudwara by providing a majority of the funding.
Speaking on the occasion, Manjeet Singh recalled the services of the Sikh community in protecting the country from outsiders, and said that the community always stood for communal harmony and peace, and that despite the serious atrocities committed against the Sikhs, the community had never revolted or created any hatred against any religion.
He said that the Guru Granth Sahebji (the revered scripture of the Sikhs) always preached the message of equality and togetherness among all sections of the nation irrespective of caste and creed, and that even during wars, the Sikhs served Langar (food) to the injured enemies first in keeping with the teachings of their faith.
Manjeet Singh also announced that the DSGMC would establish a Gurmat Vidyalaya on the Gurudwara Barambala Saheb premises.
Meanwhile, the three Jathedars hailed the Sikhs living in Deccan Telangana for maintaining their Sikh identity despite having come down south in the 1830s, at the request of the then Nizam rulers.
Following the inauguration, a colourful "Nagar Keertan" (holy procession) was taken out from the Gurudwara Saheb premises in the evening, with all the Gurudwaras from the state participating in it. Ragi Jathas Bhai Gagandeep Singh of Ganganagar, Rajasthan, and Baba Dharamveer Singh Khalsa from Punjab rendered shabad keertans and threw light on the teachings of the Sikh Gurus.
