Big Heros Being Protected In Drugs Probe: Congress
There were allegations that the officials who were interrogating the suspects were facing several pressures though they were sincere, the party alleged.
Telangana Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy said that his party would submit the information it had on the drugs mafia to the central agency after the Congress Legislature Party meeting to be held soon.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Ponguleti said that the Congress party had started getting several doubts over the ongoing interrogation into the drugs case.
There were allegations that the officials who were interrogating the suspects were facing several pressures though they were sincere.
"Excise department director Akun Sabharwal had earlier said that there was one 'big babu' and several big film heroes involved in the drugs case - where are all of those? We are getting doubts that the government is trying to protect the real big sharks in the drugs case," he said.
Demanding that the excise department make public those names, the Legislative Council deputy opposition leader said that it would be a sin if the department tried to hide the names of the persons involved.
He also asked the state government to respond on the threatening calls being receiving by the interrogating officials, and to provide SPG protection to the SIT officials.
Ponguleti also asked the state government why it was not interrogating the managements of the schools whose students were allegedly being supplied drugs, and why it was not installing CC cameras in the pubs.
He said that it was not proper for film director Ram Gopal Varma to speak in a manner that would demoralise the excise department investigating the drugs case. He asked the department to conduct the interrogation fairly to protect the brand image of Hyderabad.
