After eight days of voluntary shutdown to check the spread of the coronavirus, about 1,500 shops and businesses in Begum Bazar will reopen on Monday.
The shops will remain open from 10 am to 5 pm, according to reports.
Kirana Merchants' Association president Lakshminarayan Rathi and General Merchants' Association president Sriram Vyas announced the decisions to reopen the shops.
"At an emergency meeting we discussed the coronavirus situation, as also the problems people have been facing procuring essentials, and decided to reopen," they said. "Though the cases are still increasing, we cannot close the shops forever. We will maintain the lockdown norms while doing business, and ask the customers to do the same."
They urged people to wear masks, keep their hands sanitized and maintain physical distance while coming to shops or going outside.
