Health Minister Etala Rajender today said that the city's residents were quite fearful of the rapidly rising coronavirus cases, and that a decision on another lockdown in Hyderabad to contain the virus would be taken in a cabinet meeting in about three days.
He expressed serious concern that some people were carrying out a "wrong" campaign in the social media on the coronavirus testing and related issues in the city.
He said that the people needed to be careful about such false information.
"Despite thousands of cases being treated there is wrong information. People have to be wary of such campaigns," the minister said. "The state government has been conducting timely tests and offering treatment for those testing positive for the virus. The government hospitals at King Koti, Fever Hospital and Osmania General Hospital are ready and the staff is offering tests even in midnights. More tests will be conducted from tomorrow. Also, the death rate is lesser in Telangana than in the rest of the country. While the national average death rate in Covid-19 cases is 3%, it is only 1.7% in Telangana," he said.
"The cases are more only in Hyderabad - we have controlled the cases in the villages. To check the cases in the city we have had discussions with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. KCR will decide on whether a lockdown is required in the city in a few days," he added.
He also said that 258 health staff of government hospitals and 36 of private hospitals had tested positive.
