Telugu Desam Party deputy floor leader Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu on Thursday stated that the TDP opposes the mining of bauxite in the agency areas of Visakhapatnam district.
Talking to media persons at the Telugu Desam Legislature Party Office, Muddukrishnama Naidu said that TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu himself is opposed to the mining of bauxite, and that Naidu had announced the same in the year 2000, considering its impact on the environment.
If the government goes ahead with the mining, he said, it will affect the livelihood of tribals and jeopardize their interests.
Muddukrishnama Naidu said that the government would face dire consequences if it goes ahead with bauxite permits violating environmental rules and regulations.
He said that the government would have to face a CBI probe on the lines of Obulapuram Mining Corporation if it sanctions permits for bauxite mining.
He demanded that the government immediately stop giving away permits since the tribals are ready to launch a massive agitation against the decision.
He also wondered why Congress secretary Rahul Gandhi is not opposing the mining leases in Andhra Pradesh, unlike in other states.
TDP Mahila wing president Shobha Hymawathi was also present. (INN)
