As many as 11,353 financial inclusion camps were conducted by various banks in Andhra Pradesh as part of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana to hit the number.
Various banks across Andhra Pradesh have opened 9.28 lakh basic savings accounts by conducting as many as 11,353 camps as part of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.
According to the State Level Bankers Committee, the aim was to open 6 lakh basic savings accounts in banks during the special campaign period from August 16th to 30th. But with the excellent efforts of the various banks in the State, 9.28 lakh basic savings accounts were opened through the camps conducted by the banks during this period, the SLBC said.
The PMJDY was launched at Rajahmundry on August 28 by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu in the presence of Andhra Bank CMD and SLBC President C V R Rajendran.
As part of inaugural program under the scheme, mega camps were conducted in the State at Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Ananthapuram.
Financial Inclusion Camps were conducted throughout the state of Andhra Pradesh as part of this campaign at all district/mandal/village level centres. Various banks operating in the State actively participated in these FI camps through their 6,059 branches, and opened Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts for hitherto uncovered households.
Kits containing account passbooks and RuPay debit cards were issued to the account holders. The RuPay cards will also come with insurance coverage for the holders.
Efforts are also made in the special FI camps to improve the financial literacy of the public.
"The banks in the State are all working with total commitment to provide at least one basic bank account to all uncovered families by January 26, 2015, as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi," the SLBC said. (INN)
