While the state is agog at the daring escape from police custody of fasting Vijayawada ex-MP Lagadapati Rajagopal while in the midst of being transferred from the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada to the NRI Hospital in Guntur, it is also being gripped by several bandhs in the Rayalaseema and Andhra regions that promise to shutdown most activity.
There are bandhs in the Srikakulam towns of Palasa and Kasibugga, in the West Godavari town of Tanuku (for the second day here), in the Anantapur town of Hindupur, in Kavali and Sullurupeta of Nellore, and in Tirumala and Tirupati.
The Tirumala/Tirupati bandh is putting devotees/pilgrims to high inconvenience, compounded by the APSRTC suspending bus services to the area. Vehicles are not being allowed to ply in the temple town, with Congress activists resorting to vandalism on any that dare venture onto the streets.
The students' JAC in Vijayawada has called for a bandh of all educational institutions today in the Ralayaseema and Andhra regions.
