TRS leader and Chennur MLA Balka Suman today alleged that former party colleague Etala Rajender was carrying out a false campaign against Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
Talking to the press, Suman alleged that Rajender had joined the BJP, after being removed from the Telangana Cabinet for his reported involvement in a land encroachment case, only to "protect his assets".
He added that though the former minister had been levelling several allegations against the CM and had been criticising the leader's style of governing the state, while Rajender himself had not built any houses for the economically disadvantaged sections in Huzurabad, his erstwhile constituency, KCR had overseen the construction of about 3,000 housing units for the poor.
The leader also hit out at Rajender for "ignoring" the welfare and development of the SC, ST and BC communities in the segment, and thundered, "Today, Rajender is spreading falsehoods about the CM and his government. However, unlike the CM who works for the welfare of the people, all Rajender did while in power was to build a big bungalow, spread across a five-acre plot, on the outskirts of the city. What is even more shameful is that though the KCR government had aided Rajender's political growth, the leader promptly dumped the party who had stood by him for years."
The MLA then flayed Rajender for the comments he had made against KCR, and said, "It is condemnable that Rajender is making belittling remarks about the CM after KCR supported him and gave him innumerable opportunities to grow. Now, the former minister has promptly joined the BJP after first criticising the party on many occasions. He must explain to the people of his segment why he did so. He must also tell them why he resigned from his position of MLA."
"Why is Rajender maligning our government's welfare schemes too? Has he forgotten about the Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima and Rythu Vedika program, or the fact that our regime enabled the people of the state to access stable power and water supply connections? There is no scope to doubt the TRS regime's commitment to welfare. We have many good pension schemes for various marginalised sections, KCR Kits for pregnant women, and several other programs that have proven to be highly beneficial to the people. Where other states and even the Centre has taken note of the success of such schemes and initiatives, it is absurd that Rajender is finding fault with them," he claimed.
Talking about the by-election that will need to be held in Huzurabad soon, Suman predicted that the TRS would win the seat.
