Former Indian skipper and Moradabad Congress MP Mohammed Azharuddin's nephew was killed, while his son got critically injured, in a road accident on the city's outskirts on Sunday.
Azhar's son, the 19-year-old Mohammad Ayazuddin, and his nephew, the 16-year-old Ajmul-Ur-Rahman, suffered grievous injuries, after the 1000cc Suzuki sports bike they were riding skidded at the Poppalguda toll gate near the Outer Ring Road. They were immediately rushed to Apollo Hospital, at around 9:30am.
According to the Head of Emergency Services of Apollo Hospital, Dr. Mahesh Joshi, both the boys suffered multiple injuries and cardiac arrests after the accident. The doctors made attempts to revive the cardiac activity, but after an hour, Ajmal-Ur-Rahman was declared dead.
"We were able to revive Ayazuddin's pulse and blood pressure. He has undergone an emergency surgery. He sustained serious injury to his chest and kidney. His condition is critical, and blood pressure is low and is being supported with medication. He is on ventilator. We will have to wait and watch for next 24 hours for any improvement," Dr. Mahesh told reporters.
According to sources, Ayazuddin sustained severe injuries in spite of wearing a helmet.
Ayazuddin is the second of 2 sons of Naureen, Azharuddin's first wife. Azharuddin is currently in London, and is flying back to Hyderabad after hearing the tragic news.
Ayazuddin, a second-year B. Com. student, was an upcoming cricketer, and has often been seen practising the game with his father, Mohammed Azharuddin.
Union Minister for Health Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Congress leader K Chiranjeevi and MPs visited the hospital to enquire about Ayazuddin's health.
It may be mentioned that movie actor Kota Srinivasa Rao's son Prasad Rao, too,
died in a similar accident, while riding a sports bike, last year. (INN)
