Youth Congress activists in Hyderabad and Secunderabad today tried to storm the state BJP office in protest against the attack on AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi in Gujarat.
The irate activists tied Congress flags to the BJP office and lodged their protest. They raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also burnt an effigy of the Prime Minister.
Youth Congress leaders Prabhakar, Srikanth, Venkat Gurijala, Kotam Anil Kumar, Kiran, Ravi, Madhusudhan, Mettu Sai, Neeraj, Sairaj and Abhishek, and several activists participated in the program.
Several prominent Telangana Congress leaders spoke out against the attack on Gandhi. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) vice-president Mallu Ravi, condemning the attack, lamented that there was no protection even for a leader who had Z category security in the country. He also alleged that the attacks were being made at the behest of Prime Minister Modi.
Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy demanded that the Centre order a CBI inquiry into the Gujarat incident. He said that he expected Modi to condemn the incident in Parliament but that the PM did not. He alleged that both Modi's government at the Centre and K Chandrashekar Rao's government in Telangana were ruling against the spirit of the Constitution.
TPCC official spokesperson Konagala Mahesh warned BJP national president Amit Shah that the Congress activists would not allow him to step into Telangana. He described the incident as cowardly act, and said that it occurred with support of the Gujarat government. He demanded that Amit Shah tender an apology to Gandhi for the BJP's "gundagiri".
