An armed reserve constable, who came to undergo training for promotion in his post at Police Training School, Mamanuru, collapsed while practising running during the morning hours.
According to sources, Nageswara Rao (52), an armed reserve constable, who came to undergo training for Reserved Sub-Inspector post, collapsed while practising running. He was rushed to Mahatma Gandhi General Hospital immediately. However, the doctors declared him brought dead. The doctors said the constable had died due to cardiac arrest.
The victim, Nageswara Rao, belonged to Khammam district.
According to the Training School Principal Parimala, the candidates undergo training for the purpose of getting promoted in the department. She added that the training was not hard, and that it was made simple considering the age of the candidates.
Parimala added that regular candidates must complete a 2 km walk in 25 minutes. However, considering the age of candidates, it had been reduced to a 1.5 km walk in 15 minutes.
Constables undergoing the training staged protests and boycotted their duties, alleging that the training was very difficult and strenous for aged candidates. This is the 2nd incident reported from the centre within a week.
Police Welfare Association president Mohan Rao stated that there was no point making candidates undergo such rigorous training at the age that they are, and urged the government to simplify the training for candidates considering their age and experience.
