The APNGOs union on Monday refused to participate in talks with the state government to end their 56-day long strike, which was started in protest against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh to carve out Telangana.
APNGOs president Ashok Babu said, "The demands of the employees on strike could not be met at the cabinet sub-committee level. Therefore, the APNGOs and other unions on strike have refused to hold negotiations with the cabinet sub-committee. They are demanding that the Centre withdraw its decision to bifurcate the state."
It may be mentioned that nearly 4 lakh employees affiliated with the APNGOs and other unions have been on an indefinite strike since the midnight of August 12, in protest against the proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh to create a Telangana state. The strike has brought the administration in the entire state, especially in the 13 districts of coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema region, to a halt. (INN)
