The Andhra Pradesh Brahmin Welfare Corporation diverts Rs. 33 crores in assistance to 11,107 backward people of the Brahmin community in the State.
Hyderabad | 2nd August 2016
The Andhra Pradesh Brahmin Welfare Corporation (APBWC) successfully diverted a monetary assistance of Rs. 33 crores for 11,107 backward Brahmins in the State during the years 2015-2016, in a transparent and accountable fashion, its Chairman I Y R Krishna Rao said.
Speaking in a review meeting, Rao said that there was a need to support the weaker sections within the Brahmin community by promoting education, skill development and entrepreneurship.
Rao said that the APBWC had, for this purpose, introduced several schemes such as Bharathi, Vashishta, Dhronacharya, Charaka, Chanakya, Kashyapa and Bharava to reach out to the marginalized sections within the community. Chanakya, a bank-linked self-employment scheme for the poorest of the poor, and the Kashyapa Pension Scheme for the old and the destitute, were among the most noteworthy ones, he said.
The corporation also started two other schemes - Krishna-Sudhama and Akshaya-Brahma-Nidhi - to receive endowments from concerned individuals for the welfare of the brahmin community.
"The APBWC is striving to reach high levels of efficiency to ensure that the funds are spent more effectively. The corporation is trying to involve the altruistic segments of the society in its endeavour to help the poor through donations. I am pleased to announce that we have already received our first contribution of Rs. 5 lakhs from the Managing Director of S S Multi Specialty Hospitals Dr R Sudharani, of Tirupati, under the scheme. We look forward to contributions from other philanthropists and willing individuals. We also thank Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for starting this corporation and lending constant support to it by sanctioning adequate funds for its functions," he said.
