The state government will launch the Apathbandhu accident insurance scheme on 2 October.
The state government has already released a cheque of Rs. 26 crore as premium amount to the New India Assurance Company Limited, which has been selected to process claims and effect payments.
Announcing the launch of the scheme, Revenue Minister N Raghuveera Reddy informed media persons on Saturday that the insurance amount to eligible cases has been increased to Rs. 50,000.
The policy period is renewed every year in cases of accidental deaths of persons in the 18-69 age group, from BPL families.
From this year, in addition to accidental deaths, the scheme will also cover deaths due to snake bites and sun stroke.
The Minister said that cases occurring between 2 Oct 2010 and 1 Oct 2011 will be considered separately under the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. (INN)
