The meeting of the Apex Council, which was constituted to solve the water disputes between two Telugu speaking states - Andhra Pradesh and Telangana - has been postponed by the union government.
The meeting was scheduled to be held on August 25.
The Union Ministry of Water Resources said that it would announce the rescheduled date of the meeting very soon.
For the uninitiated, disputes related to water shares in the Krishna and the Godavari rivers have been taking place between the two states for a while now. Keeping this in mind, the Union government decided to hold an Apex council meeting to resolve the disputes as per the AP Reorganisation Act.
The meeting was initially scheduled to be held on August 5. However Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao wrote a letter to the union government urging it to postpone the meeting citing his busy schedule.
Following this, the Centre decided to hold the meeting on August 25. The Chief Ministers of both the states also decided to attend the meeting on that date.
However, the
fire accident in the Srisailam power plant and Union Water Resources Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat
contracting Covid-19 led to the postponement of the meeting again.
The meeting was scheduled to be held as a video conference.
