State Information Commissioner C Madhukar Raj, during the month of November, heard 232 cases and disposed of 231 cases.
Show cause notices have been issued to the Public Information Officers in respect of 101 cases that were disposed of, in which information was not supplied within the stipulated time.
During the month, the SIC also heard 82 show cause notices, and imposed penalties amounting to Rs. 1.23 lakh in cases (26 of them) in which it was found that the concerned Public Information Officers had not acted reasonably and diligently in furnishing the information within the stipulated time.
In two cases, the SIC also directed the public authorities concerned to pay compensation of Rs. 11,000 to the appellants, when the appellants were found to have suffered financial losses and put to avoidable inconvenience. (INN)
