Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday stressed the need for effective coordination between Telangana and residuary Andhra Pradesh for the fast development of both the Telugu-speaking States.
Interacting with walkers along with local MLP K Haribabu on the R K Beach at Visakhapatnam, Naidu said that the main agenda for both the States should be development, and politics should take a back seat.
He said that despite the bifurcation, the interests and concerns of the Telugu-speaking people were the same.
He added that the governments of both the States should consult each other on contentious issues, instead of having confrontations.
Venkaiah Naidu also assured that the Centre would extend all assistance to Andhra Pradesh in the construction of a new capital. He also assured that the period of the special category status for Andhra Pradesh would be extended by the BJP-led NDA government.
Speaking about the Polavaram Project issue, Naidu said that the ordinance issued by the Centre could not be revoked. He maintained that the ordinance, merging 7 mandals of Khammam district with Seemandhra, was prepared by the previous UPA regime, and the BJP government only released it.
He also said that the Polavaram Project, which has already been accorded the status of a national project, would be completed at the earliest. (INN)
