The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Friday released the first list of candidates for the ensuing Assembly elections. TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao figures in the list of 69 candidates which was released today.
Almost 14 years after launching the party, KCR will be contesting for the Assembly, giving rise to speculation that he is the party's Chief Ministerial candidate.
Speaking to media persons on the occasion, KCR announced that the TRS would go alone in the elections, and would not tie up with either the Congress or the BJP.
The TRS has given tickets to all 17 sitting MLAs from the same constituencies. KCR's son K Tarakarama Rao will seek re-election from Sircilla while his nephew Harish Rao has been fielded again from Siddipet.
The MLAs who crossed over from the Congress and the TDP were also given tickets.
KCR claimed that 55 percent of the candidates are from weaker sections. Shakeel Ahmed is the only Muslim candidate in the TRS and he will contest from Bodhan in Nizamabad district.
The candidates for the remaining 50 Assembly and 17 Lok Sabha seats would be announced soon, KCR said.
