Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Dr N Raghuveera Reddy accused Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of ignoring the welfare of the farmers in the state.
Speaking to media persons after paying tributes to freedom fighter and social reformer Babu Jagjivan Ram on the latter's 108th birth anniversary at Indira Bhavan on Sunday, Reddy alleged that the TDP government had failed to fulfill the promise of giving Rs 10,000 per acre input subsidy to about 40 lakh farmers.
He said that the state government should have fulfilled the promise, which would have cost Rs 1,346 crores.
Similarly, dairy farmers had been denied the promised Rs 5 per litre milk bonus, he alleged.
He also demanded an all-party meeting to discuss the drought situation in the state. He alleged that Dalit farmers were affected the worst due to the drought.
The APCC chief also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu to spawn differences between two Telugu states of AP and Telangana.
He also alleged that the Prime Minister, in connivance with Venkaiah Naidu and Chandrababu Naidu, was deliberately delaying the Polavaram project.
A delegation of the APCC will call on AP Governor E S L Narasimhan on Monday to submit a memorandum on the problems being faced by the farmers in the state. APCC President Dr N Raghuveera Reddy will lead the delegation, which will comprise of Rajya Sabha MPs and MLCs of the Congress. (INN)
