The state government has finally decided to cough up Rs. 1.68 crore to fulfil Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's wish of introducing a new fleet of Toyota Fortuner diesel cars on Thursday for his transport.
The 'puja' ceremony was conducted at his Camp Office in the morning, and the CM reached the Secretariat in his new convoy for the first time.
2 of the vehicles, bullet-proof cars, have cost the state exchequer Rs. 36 lakh each; and 4, cars without bullet-proofing, have cost Rs. 24 lakh each.
The 6 new Toyota vehicles have replaced the old Mahindra Scorpios.
Kiran Kumar Reddy was placed in the Z category security after being made CM. Though his Cabinet Ministers were provided with Fortuner cars in January 2011, the CM continued to use the Scorpios, as the new cars were sent for bullet-proofing.
After the Maoist attack at Alipiri atop Tirumala hills, former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had received bullet-proof cars in 2003.
Former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had replaced the Ambassador cars in his convoy by bullet-proof black Scorpios in 2007.
After Dr. YSR, his successor K Rosaiah continued travelling in the Scorpios. (INN)
Mr.Respected C.M. Sir u take guidance from GOA C.M. to maintain a convoy. That those vehicles maintanence charges are paid the public. U remember that once again. It's not u r asset to use that high recommended convoy.
