3-Capitals Move: Dokka Manikya Vara Prasad Quits As MLC
The former minister and TDP MLC resigned as MLC, claiming it was in protest against the YSRCP government's three capitals for AP move, but the TDP is crying foul.
Former (united) Andhra Pradesh minister and TDP MLC Dokka Manikya Vara Prasada Rao on Tuesday resigned from his AP MLC post, claiming that it was in protest against the decision of the YSR Congress Party government to have three capitals for the State.
He sent his resignation letter to TDP president Chandrababu Naidu and the AP Legislative Council Chairman.
Speaking on the occasion, Dokka also said that he would also not contest in direct elections any more in the future.
He said that he could never forget the love and affection shown by TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and the latter's son Lokesh towards him.
The timing of the resignation is surprising since the TDP, which is fiercely opposing the 3-capitals move and which has just 1-2 votes below a majority in the Council (the TDP has 28 of 58 seats, with the support of a few others possible - the YSRCP has just 9), needs every vote it can get. Dokka did not attend the Council session today, either. The TDP is reportedly accusing the YSRCP of foul play.
