Another Jolt To BRS As MP Keshava Rao Decides To Join Congress
It is already known that Rao's daughter and GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi is also defecting to the Congress. Rao and she will both join the Congress on the March 30.
With prominent leaders including MLAs, MPs and corporators leaving the party, the BRS is experiencing a series of setbacks.
In another jolt to the party on Thursday, BRS general secretary and MP K Keshava Rao decided to quit and join the Congress on March 30.
It is already known that Rao's daughter and GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi is defecting to the Congress. Rao and she will both join the Congress on the same day.
The overture reportedly formally came on March 22, when AICC Telangana in-charge Deepa Das Munshi herself went to Rao's residence and asked him and his daughter Vijayalakshmi to join the Congress. Both of them agreed.
Rao is said to be met BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao at his farmhouse in Erravelli village of Gajwel Assembly constituency today and informed him about his decision to join the Congress.
KCR is said to have expressed his anger at Rao, asking him what the BRS hadn't done for him.
Rao had joined the BRS in 2013 before the creation of Telangana State, and was elected to the Rajya Sabha twice consecutively on behalf of the BRS. He also served as the leader of the BRS Parliamentary Party.
Rao has more than two more years left as a Rajya Sabha MP.
Rao's daughter Vijayalakshmi joined the BRS in 2014. She won as a GHMC corporator two consecutive times on behalf of the BRS, and is now the Mayor of Hyderabad.
