BRS MP G Ranjith Reddy and Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender today resigned from the primary membership of his party.
Reddy sent his resignation letter to the BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao. In his letter, he thanked the party for giving him an opportunity to address the problems of the residents of the erstwhile Ranga Reddy and Vikarabad districts. He said that the confidence reposed by KCR in him had helped him serve the constituents of the Chevella constituency.
He said he had however decided to quit the party due to the current political situation in Telangana.
Taking to X (Twitter), Reddy said, "I'm writing to inform all my supporters and people that I have submitted the formal letter of resignation to @BRS party. I would like to convey my gratitude to the BRS party for the meaningful opportunity provided & the cooperation extended in my service to the people of Chevella constituency. Due to evolving political circumstances, I have made this difficult decision to submit my resignation. (sic)"
Hours after his resignation, he joined the ruling Congress in the presence of AICC State incharge Deepa Das Munshi and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
The Congress is likely to field Ranjith Reddy from the same Chevella constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
With Ranjith Reddy joining the Congress, the number of sitting MPs of the BRS leaving the party has reached five. B Venkatesh Netha (Peddapalli), P Ramulu (Nagarkurnool), B B Patil (Zaheerabad) and P Dayakar (Warangal) have already deserted the party. While Netha and Dayakar joined the Congress, Ramulu and Patil have joined the BJP. With this, the BRS currently has only four MPs in the Lok Sabha.
