Telangana Congress leaders have set a 3-week deadline for the Centre to make an official statement assuring them that the Telangana Bill would be introduced in the monsoon session of the Parliament.
Telangana Congress MLAs, MPs and MLCs convened a meeting on Sunday to discuss the Telangana issue. The ministers chalked out a plan of action to mount pressure on the government to rule in favour of Telangana.
According to sources, the ministers had decided to fly to New Delhi to take up the issue there, on June 9th and 10th, and to hold discussions with Congress core committee members.
The Telangana Congress ministers also finalized June 25th and 26th as the days on which they would meet to chart out the path to be embarked upon if the Centre fails to make a concrete statement in favour of the bifurcation of the state.
In the wake of this revelation, AP Congress Affairs In-Charge Ghulam Nabi Azad spoke to the media, stating that the Centre could not be expected to deicde upon the controversial Telangana issue within the month. The senior Congress leader explained that taking such a decision, which will have a larger impact than that perceived at first glance, was a time-consuming activity.
Telangana Congress leaders, however, are firm that nothing short of a separate state would be accepted.
It has been reported that the ministers who gathered on Sunday unanimously agreed that they would hand in their resignations if a pro-Telangana stand was not declared by the Centre by June 30th.
