Death Toll Due To Rains Rises To 9

The death toll due to heavy rains and hailstorms in the state rises to nine.
Hyderabad | 6th March 2014
The death toll due to heavy rains and hailstorms in the state touched nine on Thursday, with two more deaths being reported in the last 24 hours.

On Thursday, some of the mandals in six districts of the Telangana region (Mahabubnagar, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medak, Nizamabad and Adilabad), two districts in Rayalaseema (Ananthapur and Kurnool), and the Visakhapatnam district in coastal Andhra have received continuous rainfall.

Belluguppa of the Anantapur district, which received around 58 mm of rain, was on the top of the list, followed by Dharur of Mahabubnagar with 52 mm, and Yellareddy of Nizamabad with 41.6 mm of rainfall.

Of the nine deaths, six have been reported from Warangal, two from Anantapur and one from Nizamabad.

A total of 536 houses have been damaged, mostly in the Medak district. Agricultural crops, spread across 72,669 hectares, and horticulture crops, spread over 27,849 hectares, have also been damaged across the state.

The Met Department had predicted that heavy rainfall, with or without hail, would occur at a few places in Telangana and Rayalaseema, and at isolated places across coastal Andhra Pradesh. (INN)
