In protest against the unscheduled power cuts in the state, activists of the Bhartiya Janata Party, led by the party's state president G Kishan Reddy, staged a massive dharna before the Vidyut Soudha, on Friday.
Raising slogans against the government's failure to address the power crisis, the BJP activists tried to enter the Vidhyut Soudha's premises. However, they were prevented by security personnel from entering the building. The BJP activists had a heated argument with the police.
Addressing the activists, Kishan Reddy accused chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy of having failed to avert the "worst ever" power crisis. He demanded that Kiran Kumar Reddy resign from the post taking moral responsibility for his failure.
Warning that the BJP would intensify its agitation against the government, Kishan Reddy called upon his party's activists to lay siege to power sub-stations across the state until the crisis is resolved.
Later, Kishan Reddy and other BJP leaders and activists, including former union minister Bandaru Dattatreyya, were arrested and shifted to a nearby police station. (INN)
