The govt. of AP decides to adopt department-wise Energy Efficiency Improvement Plans (EEIP) to achieve energy savings.
The govt. of AP has decided to adopt department-wise Energy Efficiency Improvement Plans (EEIP) to achieve energy savings to the maximum extent possible in all government departments, apart from studying the best practices on energy conservation being implemented across the country as well as abroad.
Dr. P K Mohanty (Chief Secretary, Govt. of AP, & Chairperson, State Energy Conservation Mission) has issued instructions in this regard to all the key government departments, including Industries, Agriculture, RWS, MA&UD, R&B, Panchayat Raj, and Schools & Technical Education, to implement the EEIP and submit comprehensive reports consisting of methodology and cost-benefit analysis.
The Chief Secretary also directed the Industries Department regarding the linking of incentives to energy-efficient industries, and examining the smart grid system for all industrial parks in the state to reduce energy consumption in street lighting and other purposes.
The Industries Department is also contemplating notifying a "green factory building" code which mandates the following for factories: natural day light & fresh air ventilation, vegetation for at least 15% of the total site area, usage of T5 and CFLs for all interior lighting applications, usage of LEDs for external lighting, and proper recycling and usage of the waste generated on-site.
The Chief Executive Officer of SECM, A Chandra Sekhara Reddy, disclosed the above details while delivering a keynote address in a 2-day national seminar titled "Eco Sure Summit-2013". The summit is being organized by an NGO, Spoorthy Padham, in coordination with the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) at Hyderabad.
Chandra Sekhara Reddy said, "SECM has fully focused on energy conservation & energy efficiency (EC & EE) activities in key sectors such as industries, agriculture, domestic, government offices & street lights etc. SECM, in coordination with industrial organisations like CII, FICCI and FAPCCI, has carried out studies on the sector-wise and segment-wise consumption patterns of various industries, and has suggested suitable bench marks for further improving the energy efficiency and reduction of electricity consumption in certain industries such as paper & pulp, cement and steel."
He said that during their recent visit to Hyderabad, the highest authorities of the government of India, i. e., the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power (MoP), appreciated the various EC & EE initiatives & awareness programs taken up by SECM to realize the targeted energy savings, which he said would ultimately benefit the stakeholders as well as the power sector.
"BEE has also come forward to extend financial & technical support to the state for the effective implementation of Energy Conservation programs, and for adhering to Green factory guidelines," Reddy added.
Further, the CEO appealed to all electricity consumers to participate in energy conservation programs voluntarily and practice the judicious & efficient usage of electricity as "1 unit saved is equivalent to 1.2 units generated". (INN)
