The Telangana Congress party, on Saturday, claimed that it was strong enough to contest and win the ensuing elections alone.
Reacting to TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao's decision of not having an alliance with the Congress, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah said that the Congress party has a strong cadre and a sound organisational set-up in the Telangana region, and that it does not need any allies to win the elections.
He said that it was KCR who had offered to merge his party with the Congress and later, he had also set up a committee, led by K Keshav Rao, to explore the options of having an alliance.
"Now, KCR is trying to give the impression that the Congress was behind the idea of the merger or alliance all the time," he said.
Ponnala said that the Congress party had only reacted to the different offers made by the TRS.
He announced that the Congress party will contest on all seats on its own in the ensuing elections. Ponnala asked KCR to outline what had led him to make the offers of merger, and later backtrack on them. (INN)
