Addressing a press conference at the State Police Headquarters on Saturday, Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy, on Saturday, said that 77,390 cognizable crimes were reported this year upto May, compared to 73,415 cases of last year (upto May), registering an increase of 5.27%.
However, the percentage of crimes detected during the current year is 46.65 compared to last year's 47.50%. This year, till May, as many as 36,103 cases have been solved out of 77,390 cases registered across the state.
Similarly, the DGP said, during this year, property worth Rs. 37.41 crore was recovered out of Rs. 76.15 crore (49.13%), while property worth Rs. 28.19 crore was recovered out of property lost worth Rs. 63.28 crore (44.55%) during the corresponding period of 2011.
Also, 88 cases were booked against 162 human traffickers, and 117 victims were rescued.
Dinesh Reddy said that 65,561 cases were under investigation, and 3,24,044 cases were pending trial, in 399 courts, till 31 May. In 2009, 2010 and 2011, about 51,00 cases were settled in the Lok Adalat every year, whereas during this year, in a 4-month period, 64,400 cases were settled.
The DGP claimed that law and order in AP was under control. He also said that the union ministry of home affairs has selected AP for an award of Rs. 2 lakh in recognition of "excellent work" done in the field of Anti-Human Trafficking.
He said that the proposal to merge the Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police Commissionerates was ready, and that the state government must take a decision on it now.
Responding to YSR Congress leaders' allegations against CBI joint director V V Lakshminarayana, about phone calls made to reporters, he said that the police would take action based on complaints made by the CBI joint director. (INN)
