Deputy Commissioner of Police (central zone) Akun Sabharwal on Wednesday stated that a 3-tier security has been arranged at the state Assembly for its budget session which will begin on Thursday.
Talking to media persons after reviewing the security arrangements at the Assembly premises, the DCP stated that the 3-tier system with 6 companies (80 personnel in each company) comprising of CISF, BSF and CRPF would be used for maintaining law and order in the Assembly premises.
Dr. Sabharwal revealed that the 850 personnel includes 2 superintendents of police, 5 additional SPs, 11 ranked police officers, 24 CIs and 73 SIs. The security outside the Assembly premises would be taken care of by the city police.
The DCP said that the city police will also be responsible for taking action on rallies, dharnas and padayatras organized in front of the Assembly.
As part of preparing his men for the session ahead, Dr. Sabharwal instructed them to be vigilant and act tough on those who tried to picket the Assembly during the budget session.
Issuing strict guidelines to his staff, the DCP asked all Assembly members for cooperation, and other staff to follow the guidelines to ensure that there is no security lapse and the House functions smoothly.
The session will begin on February 17th and continue up to March 30th.
Earlier, the upkeep of the security inside the Assembly was the responsibility of the APSP and the local police. However, it was handed over to Central forces due to increased perception of terror threats and the separate statehood agitation.
The paramilitary forces would be deployed at both the entrance and exit of the Assembly. The security personnel are under strict instructions to allow vehicles inside the premises only after thorough checking.
