The Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister of Andhra Pradesh P Narayana on Wednesday informed that the new capital of the residuary State would be constructed based on the Singapore model.
Speaking to media persons after assuming charge at the State Secretariat in Hyderabad, Narayana said that the construction of the new capital would be a major challenge for the government which also needed to provide basic amenities in all the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh.
He admitted that an area between Guntur and Vijayawada had been shortlisted for the new capital, and that District Collectors had been asked to identify the land.
He said that nearly 30 TMC of water would be required for the new capital.
Narayana said that Andhra Pradesh's capital would be one of the best in the country. He mentioned that a delegation from the Singapore government recently met Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and offered assistance and investment for the construction of the new capital.
He said that the TDP government would seek special assistance from the Centre for the construction of the new capital.
The minister also informed that District Collectors had been asked to identify land for different projects in their districts.
He also announced that a 4-lane track would be laid connecting Kurnool, Kadapa, Anantapur and Chittoor with Vijayawada.
Narayana signed the first file pertaining to a sanction of Rs 15.3 crores for the Venukonda Municipality. (INN)
