Andhra Pradesh health officials today said that the state's Covid-19 fatalities had been falling every day.
According to the officials, not even a single Covid-19 death was reported on Saturday.
"During the past 24 hours, 114 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Andhra Pradesh, bringing the total to 8,85,824 cases so far. Currently, there are 1,973 active cases in the sate. While we have recorded 7,139 coronavirus-related deaths yet, now the death rate is slowly falling - we have not recorded a single Covid-19 death today," they said.
Bringing further relief to the people of the state, the Covid-19 vaccination program was launched in AP this morning.
Sanitation worker Pushpa Kumari, a cleaner at the Medical Health Department, became the first person in the state to receive the vaccine.
Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy inaugurated the inoculation program at the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Vijayawada after Prime Minister Modi's inaugural speech at New Delhi.
Reddy reviewed the arrangements for the vaccination program and spoke to the doctors and the beneficiaries on the occasion.
While 50 beneficiaries were given the vaccine at the GGH, 100 beneficiaries were vaccinated at the rest of the 331 vaccination centres across the state, today.
In all, 332 vaccination centres have been opened in the state for the vaccination program.
In a surprising turn of events, YSR Congress Party MLA Undavalli Sridevi, who launched the program at Ponnekallu in Guntur District, took on the role of a doctor and administered the vaccine to a woman. (Sridevi herself is a doctor.)
