The Osmania University (OU), in collaboration with the US Consulate in the city and the US-India Educational Foundation, has started an information centre on its campus for students aiming to pursue higher education in the US.
The information centre, inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tirupati Rao from the OU Centre For International Programmes, is open to students from any college in the city to clarify doubts, and to refer to information, on universities in the US. Books and other material on GRE, TOEFL and SAT; and guidance on the application procedure, course details of the universities and on the visa interviews, will also be provided at the centre by officials trained by the Consulate.
According to the US Consulate officials, what prompted the initiative was the presence of possibly misguiding education consultancy firms in the city that direct students to universities that commercially benefit the firms.
