MIM Legislature Party leader and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi has requested Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to develop the Simhavauhini Mahankali temple at Lal Darwaja in the Old City.
Owaisi met the CM at Pragathi Bhavan today and submitted a memorandum in this regard.
He reminded the CM that the Bonalu held in the temple every year was known all over the world as the Lal Darwaja Bonalu. However due to a lack of space the temple campus could not be developed, which in turn was causing many problems to the devotees, he said.
"The Lal Darwaja Mahankali temple has more than 100 years of history. During the Bonalu, lakhs of people offer prayers and Bonalu here. But the temple complex is in a 100 square yards area. Due to that small space, it is causing immense problems to lakhs of devotees. Please sanction Rs 10 crore to develop the temple and widen it. With the expansion of the temple, the people in the vicinity may lose properties, so I request you to also compensate them by providing them 800 square yards of land at Fareed Market, which is under the GHMC. Please consider the widening and the development of the temple as top priorities. This will be useful to the devotees," Owaisi requested the CM.
Owaisi also requested the CM to sanction Rs 3 crore for renovation and repairs to the Afzalgunj masjid. He said that several Muslims offered prayers there, and due to a lack of repairs, they too were facing inconvenience while offering prayers at that masjid.
The CM responded positively to the requests made by Owaisi, promising that funds for the temple and the masjid would be released. The CM instructed Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to take the necessary steps for the development of these two places of worship.
