Most of the areas in the Old City of Hyderabad on Wednesday wore a deserted look following an unofficial bandh call given by the supporters of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen over the arrest of party leader Akbaruddin Owaisi in the hate speech case.
Shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed in many areas, and RTC buses and auto-rickshaws too did not ply on the Old City roads till the afternoon. A large number of security personnel have been deployed, especially in the communally sensitive areas. Several platoons of Rapid Action Forces and other para-military forces have been deployed in several parts of the city. Some areas in other parts of the city too remained partially closed on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, shops and businesses remained shut in the Adilabad and Nizambad districts on Wednesday following a bandh call given by the MIM's district units. Tension prevailed in some areas of Nirmal when MIM workers attacked vehicles of the media personnel who went to cover the court proceedings of Akbaruddin Owaisi. Prohibitory orders have been imposed in all the towns in both the districts. (INN)
