Results of the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) 2011 were declared on Sunday, and colleges in Andhra Pradesh have gone berserk celebrating the triumph of their students.
Of the 10,53,832 students who have appeared for the AIEEE (organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education) this year, quite a few of the top ranks have been bagged by students from Andhra Pradesh. Sree Chaitanya, Narayana and Bhashyam were a few of the institutions that claimed their students had impressive ranks.
And for the teens blessed with tasting success early in life, these are moments of glory that won't be forgotten in a hurry. Colleges held press meets and celebratory functions, with cakes being cut and rankers being presented with medals.
Students had cameras flashing all over them, and some of them even got to answer questions on what led to their success in the examination. Of course, for the colleges themselves, the whole exercise was about branding, and once on camera, the kids faithfully extolled the virtues of the college they studied in and the programs they'd enrolled in.
Never mind the worrisome glorification of success in tests largely dependent on a single-track system of preparation, or allegations of
toppers 'being bought' by over-eager institutions doing the rounds, tis the season of the Rank.
