A website, hosting defamatory content against popular Telugu film actor Balakrishna, has now come under police scanner.
Investigation against the website, ihatebalayya.com, was taken up after Balakrishna, popularly called Balayya, lodged a complaint with the Central Crime Station (CCS) police alleging that he was being defamed through the website. He had met Deputy Commissioner of Police, CCS, J Satyanarayana, around a fortnight ago and had lodged a complaint.
Balayya reportedly told the DCP that the content on the website was exclusively dedicated to humiliating him and his nephews Jr. NTR, Kalayanram and Tarakaratna. He also pointed out that the site had posted morphed photographs besides vulgar comments and jokes at his expense.
Besides Balayya, the website also featured derogatory content about actor-turned-politician K Chiranjeevi, his brothers Pavan Kalyan and Nagendra Babu, son Ram Charan Teja and nephew Allu Arjun.
Following the complaint, the Cyber Crime Wing registered cases under relevant sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000.
Under Section 66 (a) of the Information Technology Act, sending and posting grossly offensive content will invite penal action, with up to 3 years imprisonment and a fine.
Investigations revealed that the site was registered with a U S-based firm with the server in Australia.
According to information coming in, the police are seeking legal advice whether to approach a court and plead, or send Letters Rogatory to the concerned foreign countries.
Meanwhile, the police has managed to block the website from being accessible in India.
