313 Model Schools Nearing Completion

Of the 355 Model Schools that have been sanctioned by the central government for the state, the construction of as many as 313 schools is nearing completion. The rest are at various stages of construction.

Disclosing the information while replying to a question raised by MLAs G Veera Siva Reddy and others during Question Hour in the state Legislative Assembly on Friday, Secondary Education minister K Parthasarathy informed the House that Model Schools (Adarsh Schools) were being constructed, with central assistance covering 75% of the building charges, and 25% of the charges being provided by the state.

Stating that the Centre has identified 737 educationally backward mandals in AP, he said that Model Schools in as many as 355 of these mandals were sanctioned in the first phase.

The total outlay of Phase I of the project is Rs. 1,072.10 crores, which includes the state's contribution of Rs. 268.02 crore. (INN)
