2 Workers Killed, Four Injured in Cellar Collapse

Two women construction workers were killed and four other labourers received injuries when an under-construction cellar collapsed at Madhapur this morning.

The deceased workers were identified as Bharatamma and Kistamma. The injured, identified as Balraju, Papaiah, Hanumantha and Shantamma, were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical care.

Rescue and relief operations were initiated by the personnel and officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and police and fire service workers. City Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy, who reached the accident spot quickly, were supervising the rescue and relief work along with police officials.

The body of Bharatamma was retrieved and sent for an autopsy. However, the relatives of Kistamma were not willing to take her body, and alleged that the building owner had failed to follow safe construction practices.
