A tractor with 23 passenger on board overturned into a lake this morning near Sattenapalli, a small town near Guntur town, killing 10 women. Improper roads have been cited to be the cause of this mishap.
Of the 23, around 5 passengers are at present missing, and 9 people have been rescued from the waters. The rescued members have been ushered to a government hospital, and the condition of 4 of them has been reported to be critical.
The makeshift ropeways and a life-saver tube on the site suggest that efforts are on to find the missing members. SP Ravichandra of Guntur has stated that a search team has already combed upto 3 kms of the waters in a particular direction, and that efforts are still on to find the rest of the passengers.
The government has announced that it would give the families of the deceased a compensation package of Rs. 10,000.
