As many as 10 persons were sent to jail earlier today, for driving their vehicles in inebriated conditions.
The Third Metropolitan Magistrate B Chengalaraya Nayudu convicted 10 persons - 6 were sentenced for 3 days of imprisonment each, and the other 4 for a period of 1 day each, for drunken driving.
The "Enforcement Against Drunk Driving" was carried out over the last weekend. A total of 87 cases were booked against drunk drivers. They involved 56 2-wheelers, 2 3-wheelers and 29 4-wheelers.
The respondents were produced before the Third Metropolitan Magistrate Court and a fine of Rs. 2,600 was imposed on each.
From 1st January to 11th October, 2013, a total of 10,180 cases were registered, and 880 people were imprisoned. (INN)
