Occupancy Certificate Must To Get Water, Power

GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said that hereafter occupancy certificates will be mandatory for buildings, and that without them electricity and water connections would not be given.

In this context the GHMC was planning to improve the existing system so that every person who applying for a building permission would also need to obtain the occupancy certificate, Kumar said. Most people were not applying for occupancy certificates as they did not have the necessity. Therefore the GHMC was making the occupancy certificate mandatory, he stated.

The Commissioner said that the idea was that everybody should come forward to obtain their occupancy certificate. In the last four and half years, 50,424 applications were received seeking building permissions.

With regard to the Gurukul Trust Land, the Commissioner informed that a consolidated report was being prepared on the status of the different properties. (INN)
