TDP MLAs Attacked At Osmania
Gory scenes witnessed - Nagam falls unconscious, taken to hospital on a scooter.
Hyderabad | 24th December 2009
Hyderabad is witnessing a severe bout of anarchy today, as the gory attacks on highly prominent MLAs - pro-Telangana - by a mob drunk with power show.
It is not only a setback to the genuineness of the Telangana movement, but also raises questions about the security of the common man in a state where normal life and the smooth running of administrative machinery were last seen and felt over a month ago.
At Osmania University, TDP MLAs were beaten up relentlessly and even chased with slippers, by students agitating for a separate Telangana. Their cars were damaged and tossed about like toys. Nagam fell unconscious and had to be taken on a scooter to Kamineni hospitals.
Minister Komatireddy demanded to know how the anti-Telangana politicians from TDP had the gall to land up at Osmania University. Even as belligerent crowds proceeded for the kill, there was hardly any force visible to keep them in check. Uma Madhav Reddy, Seetakka, Nagam Janardan Reddy, Kadiyam, Otkupalli, Sumanth Rathod, Revanth, Yerrabelli Dayakar Rao and Devender Goud were the ones attacked.
The OU JAC says they were not involved in the attack on TDP MLAs, and that it was the act of hired goons. IG Anuradha, however, asserted that it was students from the campus who took part in the attacks.
Surprisingly, police were nowhere around in the war zone, even though the IG has said they will be withdrawn only when the situation retruns to normalcy.
And meanwhile, mediapersons found a pistol on the OU campus and handed it over to the police.
