Telangana To Provide Health Cards To Poor Brahmins
Beneficiaries will get coverage of upto Rs. 2 lakhs for a premium of Rs. 1,000, and can avail themselves of treatment in corporate hospitals across the state.
Government Advisor K V Ramanachary today said that poor Brahmins in Telangana would now be able to avail themselves of facilities for health insurance and treatment in corporate hospitals across the state.
Addressing mediapersons at the Secretariat after distributing the health insurance scheme cards to poor Brahmin families, Ramanachary said that the state government was offering annual coverage of Rs 2 lakhs via the cards.
The scheme would enable upto four members in each Brahmin family to now get treatment costing up to Rs 2 lakhs in various corporate hospitals operating in the state.
He said that the National Insurance Company Limited had offered the lowest rate of Rs 4,900 per annum for an insurance policy that would cover a family of upto four members. Each family would have to contribute only Rs 1,000 as their share of the premium and the remaining amount would be borne by the Telangana Brahmin Sankshema Parishad, he clarified.
Chary appreciated the Parishad for interacting with various Brahmin organizations, holding negotiations with reputed insurance companies for competitive premiums, and taking up the arduous task of identifying the beneficiaries for the scheme.
In the first phase, 200 beneficiaries had been selected and an amount of Rs 9.80 lakhs released to the insurance company towards the premium amount for these beneficiaries, Ramanachary said.
