MIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has been sent to Sangareddy Jail after the court ordered that he be kept in judicial custody for 14 days. Earlier today, the MP had surrendered at Sangareddy court over a case registered against him and his brother Akbaruddin Owaisi in 2005, for allegedly having assaulted the then District Collector of Medak, Anil Kumar Singhal.
The Hyderabad MP has reportedly been relegated to judicial remand until 2 February. However, he has applied for bail. Since the hearing is to be held tomorrow, Asad has been shifted to Sangareddy jail.
The MIM leaders had allegedly started rioting when Singhal was overseeing a road-widening project in Patancheru, insisting that the work would damage a place of worship. They also reportedly issued threats to the collector, and hurled abuses of communal nature at him.
The Owaisi brothers had been booked under sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 153(A) (promoting enmity between groups), 353 (assault on a public servant, obstructing him from discharging duties), 290 (punishment for public nuisance), 295 (deliberate acts to outrage religious feelings) and 506 (criminal intimidation); and had been summoned to the court in the year 2005.
However, up until now Asaduddin Owisi had only appeared in the court once. With the resurrection of the case on
Akbar Owaisi 4 days ago, Asad was also asked to appear at the Sangareddy court today, with which order he complied.
The hearing on Akbaruddin Owaisi regarding the same case is scheduled to be held on 28 January.
