In anticipation of MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi's appearance at the police station at
Nirmal, MIM is conducting an emergency meeting at its headquarters in Darussalam, with all of its leaders and corporators in attendance. What stand to take with respect to Akbaruddin's hate speech controversy, what strategy must the lawyers adopt, what could be the Congress party's (with whom the MIM had a break-up last year over the
Bhagyalakshmi temple row) hand in what they considering to be blowing up the issue - these are the issues being discussed at the meeting.
Meanwhile, Akbaruddin has asked for
four days before appearing at the police station in Nirmal, citing ill health as the reason. Doctors from the Owaisi hospital, which belongs to his father, were at his residence to examine Akbaruddin post his treatment. Further, Akbaruddin has been instructed to undergo a check-up by a doctor from a government hospital to certify his claims of ill health.
However, there has been no response from the police over Akbaruddin's request. While pressure is mounting on the police from all directions to arrest Akbaruddin Owaisi, the police openly admit that worries of law-and-order issues are making them hesitant to rush the arrest. At the same time, they do not want to be seen as being too lenient, and claim that they would have no compunction in arresting Akbaruddin in case of too many delays.
