Finance & Health Minister T Harish Rao today said that the face of the Zaheerabad Assembly constituency would change forever and that all the barren lands would turn fertile once the Sangameswara Lift Irrigation Project (SLIP) was completed.
The minister on Tuesday toured the lanes and bylanes of the Zaheerabad town on a cycle as part of the Nagara Baata program. He checked on the ongoing development works by entering several corners of the town, and asked the officials concerned to speed up the works.
Speaking on the occasion, Rao said that the State government was constructing the SLIP, at an estimated cost of Rs 3,000 crore, to bring the Godavari waters to the Zaheerabad area for drinking and irrigation needs.
"Once the project is completed, it will change the face of Zaheerabad forever," the minister claimed.
Rao also said that the new pipelines laid at a cost of Rs 19 crore in the town aimed at providing drinking water to all the households, and that those works were almost complete.
The NIMZ was all set for the operations of industrial units, and a defence industrial unit was being set up close to Zaheerabad, which would boost the development of the constituency, Rao claimed.
Alleging that former minister Geeta Reddy, who had represented the Zaheerabad Assembly segment twice, had failed to take up development activities and had ignored public issues, Rao said that the present MLA Manikya Rao was working hard for the development of the constituency, and that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had allocated Rs 50 crore to the constituency.
MLA Manikya Rao, TRS district president Chintha Prabhakar, TSMIDC Chairman Errolla Srinivas, other elected representatives and officials of the Zaheerabad municipality were present.
